people sometimes feel inferior to other people, duh
this may or not be related to what position they took when building a human pyramid as a kid
or maybe to the amount of valentines they received as a small child
how does it feel to be a person that other people remember?
i remember thinking, even when i was little that
even if everyone looked exactly how they wanted to
they would still find shit to hate themselves for
which is sad, cause i like everyone at least a little
in my american life every day it is safe to say my first active thought is, i am going to spend a very long time listening to music today and also doing nothing of significance
and i will think about cooking something elaborately vegan and then i will just eat some fruit and some rice and beans
complaining while also knowing fully
that i have the ability to change everything that i truly can't stand
if i really, really fucking wanted to
i will flirt with your mother just to make your father a new level of extremely uncomfortable
and you will point this out in the car
and i will laugh, forever
when i think about people sleeping
i feel better about them as people
my grandparents asleep in clean, smooth and warm linen
my brother in sheets with colors that look like sweaters from the banana republic
a sweater the color of a baby duck
thinking about things that last a long time
when i was little sleeping always felt so long
i guess everything feels that long when you are a kid
everything is exigent and your body is powered towards that one thing
that you want at that moment
my neighbors in what i assume, carefully divided sheets
torn in half and sewn together in the middle, one side hyper-masculine and the other, hyper-feminine
pink and blue, only
in the middle with white and black thread, x stitches
i can't imagine him ever actually kissing her, on the mouth, or anywhere
their little boy in cotton ones, with bears
racecars or something
my own, red and half price from a department store going out of business
that doesn't match the wall
the ones my mom made at school
i am twenty one years old and i still sleep under blankets my mom has made me
i still have haircuts that she has given me
i still eat food that she makes for me
i am not an adult
i want to be an adult
no i don't, don't say that
you can imagine how it might feel to sleep next to someone you love
maybe you can't imagine how that might feel
there is a lot of wine but no pumpkins, soak that up
yes if i die you get my records you know this
stop plotting my demise in clever ways, majcher
everyone is going to see you with a smokin' gun, at some piece of shit 35 rpm
a hundred eighty gram vinyl doesn't mean shit if you know how to take care of your records in the first place
the kid in the fox suit was the best
today at the library the woman sitting behind the desk said, how may i help you
and i said, how are you
and she said i'm fine what can i do for you
and i said, just this one thing, and reached into my pocket for a post-it note with a book written on it
and she said, what about computer 12
i turned my head and looked at computer 12 and there was a lady next to it at computer 11 looking at pictures of johnny depp on google images and then i looked at computer 13 and there was a teenage boy clicking and typing on myspace pictures wildly
and i turned back and said what about computer 12
and she said, is that one okay for you?
i said, oh, no thank you, i'm looking for a book, i can't find it
she said, oh... oh, okay
and then she stared at my face but didn't ever adjust her focus on my eyes or on anything
i must have looked like a floating orange and black figure in front of her, blurry and motionless
what book is it
i spelled the words that were not everyday words to make sure i was clear and not being annoying
i looked at computer 12 and it looked like windows 98 was going to rip apart the next person who tried to watch a youtube video on it
then there was a boy doing geometry homework at a desk in the corner of the fiction section and i wanted to hold him
and i do not want to learn about the economy
i know that the economy is "important" and by not wanting to learn about it that i am probably closed minded
maybe i am closed minded
i am closed minded
i do not want to learn about the economy
i am afraid of learning about the economy
and starting to think that the things people do for the sake of it is "ok"
because by learning about the economy i will start to think that it is sort of "important"
computer 12, is that okay

Load Day 23: 10 Things That Surprise Me About My Life

Load Day 23: 10 Things That Surprise Me About My Life

Found an ad in Real Simple that had this basic layout and adapted it for my own purposes.

Journaling reads:
1. I live in a really small town, I never planned on it and it still feels a little strange to me. But I’ll be sad when we do move on.
2. Things change - I was super shy growing up, and I’ve kind of out grown that. And at this point I actually like meeting new people and I can phone the library -all by myself!
3. Things don’t change - I still like my down time and need my own space in order to be happy. Even from my husband and my kids who I dearly love. I really cherish the hour or so I have all to myself when they are all in bed.
4. You never know where life will take you - I’ve nurtured my talents and developed my photography skills to the point that I have a family photography business.
4. My house is quite cluttered and while in many ways I’m pretty organized in others I can’t get a handle on all the stuff a family of five collects.
5. I will probably only have three kids. I always planned on more, but I’m coming to terms with it, slowly.
6. I had to get braces again! Why oh why didn’t I faithfully wear that retainer!
7. One of my greatest joys is trying different kinds of food -Darrel and I love Vietnamese, Indian, Japanese, you name it, we are pretty much game to try anything.
8. How fast time is flying by. Jack is six. That is hard to believe.
9. I love listening to CBC radio 1 -the talk programs! I used to hate those. I think this is partly Darrel’s influence. When we got married we fell into the habit of listening to Definitely Not The Opera (DNTO) on Saturdays. Living out here I drive a lot to get groceries, run errands etc. and it’s usually clean enough to listen with the kids in the vehicle and I feel like it nurtures my brain.
10. How much I struggle with motherhood. Am I doing it right? Where’s the joy amidst the day to day chaos? The loneliness of being so far from extended family. Trying to lighten up. The photos are from a particularly hard day and I needed to change the mood so I took the kids into our room and we started doing funny pictures in front of the mirror. I need to do more stuff like that to change direction when we are all sick of each other -because it worked! We had a blast and then we could move on and be pleasant.
